I’m planning to switch my phone this year from the S7 Edge, which has had some issues. The main point is whether I should stick with Android for free customization or move to iOS for the experience everyone else enjoys. I really like both systems but sometimes feel my friends and family criticize Android while praising iOS—like mocking camera features or complaining about missing FaceTime or iMessage. I’m holding off on the Next Pixel until then, which makes it a tough choice. What are your thoughts?

Benefits & downsides:

I’d choose Android because the phones are more affordable, offer greater customization, and wouldn’t be a huge loss if they ended up in your hands. I’d also ask someone familiar with an iPhone to weigh in before deciding.

Smartphones come with various communication tools like FaceTime and Hangouts via iMessage. Both devices feature cameras of similar quality. iOS offers extensive personalization options. They utilize modern file systems and continuously introduce new features. Some brands may optimize older models to encourage upgrades.

Your family and friends have no right to tell you what to do or pressure you into anything. A little humor here and there is fine, but constant pressure feels unfair. They’re not the ones using it every day—you are!

I tested my friends' iPhone 7 and was amazed by its speed often, yet the main reason I haven’t switched is the removal of the headphone jack—something I worry might be lost on future Google phones.

There are two perspectives on every topic, even about the apple coin. My view is that if you lean toward being early, choose an Android phone; for a more polished experience, go with iOS. Mobile definitely changed before the new iPhone came along. The Face ID feature works well too. The slim bezels are really appealing, though they weren’t the first to experiment with them. As someone who prefers early adopters, I stick with Android phones. Still, I’d love to hear what iPhone users think since Android has been the main player so far, like @themctipers.

It's quite smooth, but it lacks depth for me. Also, avoid letting others sway your choices—I go to a school where everyone has iPhones and feel like I shouldn't own my S8. My mom and sister use iPhones too, while my dad prefers Android.

The latest Android device offers impressive performance and optimization. The processors are significantly improved. Microsoft even managed to run complete Windows 10 on it using x86 emulation, all working seamlessly. I believe it will manage Android well. Still, iOS remains excellent, though it has its own issues. More complaints have been reported.

I find the headphone jack not too important since I use an iPod for music. Iso is built for its specific hardware and should offer better performance compared to android. Android has improved quite a bit in optimization. I might also think about getting an S8.
