One channel functions while the other doesn't. If the alternative slots work with the older CPU, it suggests your new CPU has a dead memory channel. In that scenario, I advise returning the product for repair.

Your memory layout might vary. The channels are slot 1 and 3 plus slots 2 and 4 seem unusual, as it would be half of each channel. It’s possible I’m confusing things. You mentioned counting from the edge as 1 and 4 near the CPU, but I’m not sure what you mean by 3 and 4. The diagram shows A1, A3, B1, and B2.
