Hello, I only recently realized this problem because I usually keep the volume muted. Occasionally, while playing games, the audio just stops completely across the system. I can usually fix it by adjusting the audio mixer and turning the sound source on or off, even though only one device is connected (the display). Here’s a screenshot of relevant sections in Device Manager for "Sound, Video & Game Controller" and "Input and Output Audio Source." A video of the issue should help clarify what’s happening.

Here are my system details:
- Case: nzxt h7 flow rgb white edition
- Power Supply: 850W 80Gold Core Reactor Mod
- Fans: Included in H7
- Cooler: Deepcool LT720 White 360mm
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
- GPU: MSI RX 4070 Ti Super Gaming X Trio Slim 16GB GDDR6X
- RAM: 32GB 6000C Lexar RGB 2x16GB
- SSD: 2TB Silicon Power US75 M.2 NVMe Gen4 7000MBPS
- OS: Windows 11 Pro

I wasn’t assembled by myself, but a professional did. Thanks to everyone who tries to assist—I’m really struggling with this.

I just realized the Imgur album isn't showing up anymore (at least from my side). Sorry, I'll include the screenshots here. The source we're discussing is the "generic monitor" (24G2W1G3-) visible in the "Device Manager" screen. I've also added the screenshot of "right click - properties" (property 1 to 4) so you can see it clearly. I think this confirms we're talking about the Nvidia High Definition Audio Device, though I'm not entirely sure. I added these images to help avoid any confusion.

It seems your issue might stem from the Nvidia Virtual Audio Device interfering with the main Nvidia High Definition Audio. This device is activated when connecting an HDMI/DP cable from your GPU to a monitor or a 3.5mm/SPDIF input. I typically use it for simplicity, routing audio signals directly from my monitor to my speakers. Try identifying the app using this device and closing it if it runs in the background. This should help isolate the problem. Alternatively, disable all other devices except the one you're testing and observe the outcome.

You want to turn off certain audio sources: high definition audio, streaming audio, and the Nvidia virtual audio device. Keep only the Nvidia High Definition Audio active. Thanks for your patience—I’m just careful to ensure clean results.

Absolutely, and if problems persist, it’s clear the issue lies in not understanding the core problem first. It’s also useful that the device isn’t working properly when you rely solely on the GPU sound output.

Good morning! I turned off all devices except "Nvidia High Definition Audio." Because the problem keeps occurring occasionally, I need more time to verify it. I’ll continue using the PC normally and update if it happens again—just keep me quiet as much as possible. In my regular routine, I often use earphones for calls. However, I’ve noticed that with the simple 15€ wired earphones (basic mic included) on the 3.5mm jack, they no longer work. Can you suggest which driver should be reactivated so they function properly during calls?

I haven't tested it in a few years, but bluetooth headsets on Windows just never worked right. There's the 'audio device' and 'communication device' default settings. I'd run into an issue like this trying to get bluetooth headsets function fully and would only seldomly work. Wired headsets or USB dongle type are really the way to go on Windows, unless they've since fixed these issues.

However, I wasn’t using Bluetooth devices; I connected the wired ones via a jack into the 3.5mm port, but they weren’t detected by the PC and the sound kept coming from the screen. This is why I was curious about which driver managed the wired headphones so I could turn it back on again.

I usually change the audio output device manually each time I switch to my headset. The only app that's always set to my headset is Discord, because I don't use it without it. It makes sense not to have it as the default there. Likely the one starting with "D".
