I managed to complete it, though the loading process didn't change anything afterward.

I performed a complete reinstall from recovery mode, and if this happens consistently then your laptop should be okay as long as it stays powered on. However, once you leave it off for some time, it will revert to the rainbow screen upon restarting. Consider checking for software updates, ensuring drivers are up to date, or verifying that no background services are causing the issue.

I've mostly used Debian-based distributions such as Kubuntu, Pop OS, and even just debian—it didn't work well for the GUI. Edited: I've managed to install Kubuntu and Pop OS, but after turning off my laptop overnight, the screen flickered with a rainbow effect.

I only used the NVIDIA driver because I believed it offered the most stability and dependability, but what advantages does the new driver provide?

It's ideal for you since you're not seeking high performance. Which option would you prefer?

Thanks a lot for the assistance thus far—it's been really helpful. I'll keep the answer noted if it functions tomorrow.

It functions properly overall, though there’s a minor problem: it displays a rainbow screen before loading the login page. Once logged in, it briefly shows a black screen before the GUI appears correctly afterward.
