You're experiencing performance issues with your GTX 970 when using SLI, and you're considering upgrading for better results. Many have tried this setup, but compatibility with Dragon Age remains uncertain. It's understandable to prefer playing at full settings—thank you for sharing your thoughts!
The gap between 1440p and 1080p isn't that big—your experience makes sense. At 1080p, running it is smooth, but at 1440p it feels much more demanding.
Based on my search, it appears to accommodate SLI. If not, you'll need to wait for the SLI profile release for that game. Someone familiar with SLI might be able to verify.
According to what I understand, Dragon Age Inquisition faces some issues on the SLI side, possibly needing an update or a driver fix from Nvidia for optimal performance. A second GTX 970 adds significantly to a 1440p gaming rig and performs impressively, though if you're mainly into DA, it might be better to hold off until more updates come out.
The performance is quite poor. The GTX 980 is hovering near 40 FPS. That’s the only thing.
Yes, the difference isn’t huge, but there’s clearly a variation. Right now most top-tier cards handle 1440p well, though you might need to lower certain settings for smoother performance in some titles.
Playing at 1440 with ultra settings and no AA. Current SLI total is 980s. Game runs smoothly at about 100 average, generally around 110, peaking in the 130s. In combat and towns it's in the 80s–90s, while some zones dip to the 70s (Redcliffe is the biggest issue so far).
everyone using DA:I on a 1440p display with either a 970, 980, or SLI setup. Are you all connected to a G-Sync monitor? Would a G-Sync display be superior or merely a significantly more affordable option compared to the two alternatives (Swift and the Acer model)? Also, when looking up "g-sync" on Newegg, it lists the primary brands and mentions Nficia 3D gaming but doesn’t explicitly mention G-Sync. Do these aspects really impact performance at 1440p? Single and Sli configurations for 970s and 980s models?
