I saw today that using Direct X 2 with DirectX 11 is significantly quicker in terms of frames per second and looks smoother compared to OpenGL. I own an AMD card and believed OpenGL performs better with those chips. With DirectX, I maintain steady around 64 FPS and GPU usage stays between 75% and 100%, while OpenGL drops to about 40 FPS with noticeable jitter and fluctuating GPU load from 55% to 100%. RAM usage with OpenGL ranges from 700 to 1000 MB. Both games and the GPU are updated, and my ASUS Strix 390 OC is running at 4K.
It's possible the explanation isn't quite clear, isn't it? Shouldn't using OpenGL improve performance?
I believed SCS software didn't focus much on improving OpenGL, opting instead to allocate more effort toward Direct X.
Optimization issues may exist with OpenGL in ETS2. AMD drivers generally perform worse compared to NVIDIA drivers. Some other OpenGL titles work well on AMD hardware.
