Hey everyone! Recently, the power supply unit of my old computer from a salvaged build failed (smoke everywhere). Fortunately, it looks like most of my parts stayed intact. Here are the details of my PC setup: - Intel i5 10400f with OEM fan
- Dell OEM RTX 3060 TI
- Corsair vengeance 16GB RAM at 2400Mhz
- Asrock H510M-HDV/M.2
- Kingston 480GB SSD plus an old Seagate 2TB HDD
- Old Talius 600W PSU broke down, replaced with GIGABYTE P650B (double-checked it’s safe)
- Standard Mars Gaming case
The only non-new component is the case itself. The rest I’ve gotten secondhand from local markets. Before the new PSU failed, I noticed a lot of static buildup around my PC, even after the replacement. It’s become so risky that I sometimes can’t even touch screws or the side panel without getting a shock. Even the metal parts of my sim racing steering wheel aren’t safe when plugged in. I’m hoping there’s a fix to avoid another PSU issue damaging my gear. Thanks for any advice!
I use a power receptacle tester and verify that the ground is properly linked to the wall socket you’re employing (and possibly throughout your residence). Ensure continuity is active, place one pin in the center hole and the other on the rounded ground plug. If it beeps, it works. If not, try setting it to the lowest resistance mode and repeat. The display should show a value near 0 (possibly fluctuating) rather than just a fixed "1" or "over," as wires aren't perfect conductors.
