That's straightforward. Your mom understood there was no likelihood of you harming aliens in reality. You're allowed to target people in real life. The idea of shooting aliens or robots is seen as excitement from aiming and control, while actually hurting humans is concerning unless you enjoy games. We can distinguish between the two, even though many think otherwise.

I don’t understand the Fortnite community well enough, which makes your observation interesting. What worries me more is how many children have access to Snapchat, Facebook, and Twitter...

Back then, I stayed hidden and used forums and IRC. If I hadn’t been ready, I might not have been that old online. Around 11-12 was probably too early for all that.

Perhaps it stems from growing up with resilient parents who faced challenges yet succeeded, while I was introduced to GTA at age five. How could anyone assume Fortnite is that violent?
