She thinks it’s too intense, but it’s just a game with action and excitement. It’s not harmful in the way real violence is—it’s meant for fun and entertainment.

You don’t use Facebook and prefer Jim instead, what do you think?

They’re likely correct when they say you’re not old enough to enjoy that game.

For those under 12, simply pay attention to her. If you're older than 13, craft a detailed essay explaining why you should be allowed to play Fortnite and why it doesn't involve violence. Also, note that when others are playing, it doesn't strengthen your case, and calling Fortnite trash isn't a solid argument.

This game involves running around and shooting other players, which is inherently violent by nature. Your mother has a valid point on that. While I can offer some discussion ideas, the final decision rests with her regarding what’s best for you. If your motivation is to join because your friends are playing, you might be able to present a reason. Demonstrating that you’re mature enough to handle such content without it negatively impacting you could influence her perspective. Talk to her about it. Clarify the distinction between cartoon violence and real-life violence. These suggestions aren’t certain outcomes but could help you communicate more effectively instead of relying on a simple statement.

Suggest they try a timeless title such as Twisted Metal and see how it stacks up against Fortnite.

It’s unlikely you’ll convince your mother otherwise. Focus on showing your maturity and responsibility by distinguishing fact from fiction, and highlight how it helps release stress. Avoid venting on forums about your mom—better to engage directly with her. The most effective approach is to invite her to observe your gameplay for 20-30 minutes, then decide based on your performance, teammates, and the overall situation.

Really, I was shocked at how common it seems for a 9-year-old to enjoy playing online shooters. Young children used to play shooters when their parents weren’t around, but this feels completely normal for you now? Even without the gun aspect, 9 years old is still a bit young to be exposed to online gaming in that way.
