Several challenges arise when playing games on Manjaro.
I've recently done my (hopefully) final distro hop and I'm now on Manjaro Deepin. All I have installed is Chrome, Discord, Teamviewer, Steam (with Proton enabled), wine, and winetricks (both have nothing "installed"). Some games work decently well, like TF2; it runs nativly on Linux, but I like to run it in windowed borderless, and if I do that, the cursor doesn't lock in TF2. This is incredibly annoying and is unplayable for "serious play" (as serious as TF2 can be). The main issue I'm facing is that it seems that DirectX isn't "installed" or whatever. The two games I've tried other than TF2 are BeamNG.drive and GTA V. Both fail to launch and give me errors about a "missing DirectX device" and both require DX11. My specs are in my signature, does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks! Also, if you don't mind, I'm tagging you @GabenJr because you're one of the big reasons I switched to Linux when it was time to reinstall my OS and I figure you may be able to help me.
The TF2 problem seems connected to a deeper issue—using fullscreen mode with virtual desktops instead of switching tabs. For Windows titles, Proton relies on Vulkan to mimic DX11 (which isn’t available on Linux), but this depends on your GPU supporting it. The R7 370 is essentially a rebranded HD7850, so it isn’t officially backed by the open-source AMDGPU driver; some users reported issues with the Catalyst driver, though it’s worth trying. Do you already have either of these set up? If not, consider installing Catalyst via the AUR and restarting—this could lead to a black screen if problematic, but you can switch to a shell using Ctrl+Alt+F2 and remove Catalyst afterward.
Consider what you need and match it to the right option. You mentioned Catalyst-video, so check if that's the one you're looking for.
The installation is confirmed. This occurred following execution of the "prepare the system for catalyst drivers" command.
