Setting up Windows 8 on a brand-new SSD Installing Windows 8 on a fresh SSD
I recently purchased a new SSD because my previous one was full. I also have an additional 1TB for my files and games. My concern is how to install Windows 8 onto the new SSD. I've moved the necessary files there, but whenever I switch the boot order to the new drive, the setup fails and I end up with Windows 8 on my old SSD. Do I need to disconnect the old SSD first? If so, will removing it affect my data on the HDD?
Did you configure the system's default boot source in the BIOS settings? Also, consider installing it using a USB flash drive as an alternative.
Do you have the original installation documentation? If you purchased it online, you can transfer it to a USB drive or disc for setup. Using an older SSD won't work because the system will boot from it automatically.
No software or drivers need automatic reinstallation; they must be added manually via the Windows registry, which isn't possible through cloning or relocating files.
