I recently purchased a new SSD because my previous one was full. I also have an additional 1TB for my files and games. My concern is how to install Windows 8 onto the new SSD. I've moved the necessary files there, but whenever I switch the boot order to the new drive, the setup fails and I end up with Windows 8 on my old SSD. Do I need to disconnect the old SSD first? If so, will removing it affect my data on the HDD?

Did you configure the system's default boot source in the BIOS settings? Also, consider installing it using a USB flash drive as an alternative.

Did you duplicate your previous SSD or install the latest version? Also, verify you enter the BIOS settings and adjust the boot sequence to the new SSD, then disable the old disc or USB drive holding your Windows installation.

Changed the system's default boot settings to the new SSD, yet it continues to start the older one.

Consider disconnecting both the old SSD and HDD before proceeding.

You can use the Windows copy on the USB drive, but make sure it's the latest version for a smooth setup.

Do you have the original installation documentation? If you purchased it online, you can transfer it to a USB drive or disc for setup. Using an older SSD won't work because the system will boot from it automatically.

You can move all files from your old SSD to the new one. It’s feasible to clone data except for the operating system and related files, though you may need to reinstall those later.

No software or drivers need automatic reinstallation; they must be added manually via the Windows registry, which isn't possible through cloning or relocating files.
