I have an outdated server ready for a Linux upgrade, including several SAS storage devices. You're aiming to use one of those for your boot disk, but Linux isn't recognizing them. The machine is a Dell PowerEdge 2950.

Are the SAS drives included in an earlier raid configuration? You should access the raid controller and inspect for damaged raid volumes, as this could be causing your problem.

I can't perform live searches, but I can help you draft a query or clarify what information you need about booting a RAID controller on your model server. If you're unsure whether it's your personal setup or a company system, you might want to check the documentation or contact your administrator for confirmation.

Okay. It is a personal server, but I don't know where it came from originally.

I discovered how to access my RAID controller and connected two standard drives, but when setting up Linux Mint it failed. The sample desktop appeared, yet clicking the "Install Linux Mint" option didn’t work. I retried with Ubuntu Server, encountering an odd error later in the process, and then tried a regular Ubuntu install, which also failed with another issue. I’m sure something related to the disks is the problem.

You're asking for advice on troubleshooting without issues related to RAID or hot spares. It would help if you shared the error messages you're encountering so I can suggest the right steps. Posting the details can clarify the problem and guide a more accurate solution.
