It's better to ask here than start a new topic. I plan to buy an M.2 drive and wipe my hard drive so that Windows 10 is gone. Since Windows 10 has a full license, can I move it over without buying a new one? Should I install Win 10 first before upgrading to 11? The download links don't say exactly how this works. My computer uses an AsRock Phantom Gaming 4 B365M board. After activating in the BIOS and turning on "secure boot" and TPM (since they are currently off), what do I need next?
Hello! Please download a file called Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft. Then, make a bootable USB stick using Rufus (it's free software). Next, put that USB drive into your PC and start it up. You may have to change the boot order in the BIOS menu to use the new drive. Finally, set up Windows 11 on your hard drive or SSD with a fresh install. The license key you are using for Windows 10 will work just as well here too. I hope this helps...
Never did I hear of Rufus before. I figured the computer would catch that name for sure.
What exactly do we need? Rufus isn't required. Just use MediaCreation Tool from Microsoft instead. I need to find the exact file that will help me install version 11. Before we start, let's be clear about what I want to do. Right now, version 10 is stored on an external hard drive. My plan is to take out this old hard drive and put in a new one made for M.2 slots. On this fresh disk, I will install version 11, which means starting over completely with a brand new setup.
