Set up Windows right now with no internet connection needed.
I am thinking about building an M2 drive onto my motherboard right now. Currently, I am running Windows 10 on a hard drive that is not too modern. Some people said you can install Windows 11 if you turn off something in the BIOS settings. The card is an Asrock B365M Phantom Gaming 4. I was thinking about getting a new motherboard, but then I realized I would also need a new CPU and a better fan for it, which aren't cheap. Anyway, my question is just curiosity since I couldn't find anything online. Now that everything is online only, how would you install an OS on a completely new system when you have no access to the internet? Yes, I can get it on a USB stick and install from there; all fine and good. But what if you don't have this option? I am still the old school type who installed things from a disc.
I can't really tell what's different from putting in a disk, but imagine if you couldn't use a hard drive or a CD. It would be like starting a computer without knowing how to turn on the lights. Who are these people building things that work with no internet?
Is your computer running on an old hard drive? You can copy the data directly from that HDD to a new M.2 stick, or since you have internet access right now, just make a fresh USB install. If you're looking for Windows 11, it's probably safer to wait two years because it won't come with your computer out of the box. Even if it does support Win 11 at first, don't worry about that; Windows 10 doesn't get shut down until October 2025, so keep using Win 10 for now.
Hello! It is okay if you are not connected to the internet when you try to install Windows. Just make sure you choose the "I don't have an internet connection" option and then create your local account. After you finish installing the operating system, you will need drivers for your PC that come on a drive. You will have to put them in yourself. Here are some problems: 1. Sometimes you must install software that needs online activation, but you won't be able to do it. 2. If you use an antivirus program, it may need getting updated often, and you won't be able to do that either. 3. Windows itself will have a lot of important updates without internet access. I hope this helps...
The opposite is true. For Windows 11 you need TPM UEFI boot Secure boot enabled It works just fine with that. But then you have to find some other way to get USB installation media. Get another person to make it for you who has internet access or buy physical media along with a license at a computer store.
Thanks everyone! I know that about ten more people will join me in the next few years. Probably by then, I'll have got a brand new Macbook and CPU and be running 11. Just wanted to ask myself how I can get the OS installed when building my own computer from scratch.
