You're selling your Asus ROG Strix Z370-F Gaming + i7 8700k. When Windows 10 installs, does the new owner have to enter the activation key? And if not, can they still view your account details when they start using Windows?

They’ll require a personal key, though if not, they’d still need to log in using your Microsoft account information because only that might be saved on any product you’re offering.

The only places they are kept, according to me, are in pre-built units where the key is burned into the BIOS/UEFI. Even if it was stored that way, no personal information would be available to anyone else—they’d just receive a standard key.

As long as the Windows license you bought is not OEM there is nothing to worry about.

Wow, it's an OEM because that's what my business received.

When it's an OEM model, it's connected to the motherboard and isn't easily removable. However, I reached out to Windows support and successfully transferred a license by explaining that my previous laptop had stopped working.

I don’t focus on the Windows key. My concern is keeping personal details like name, email, or profile picture private if someone else installs Windows on my device.

You can delete the linking with your MS account. Once done, it doesn’t matter. They’ll have to log in to your account to view any related information. If you sell it without Windows, they should obtain a new key if necessary. Possessing the key doesn’t provide access to account details—it only enables Windows functionality. Mobo does not retain any account information.
