Upgrading from 10400 to 10600K isn't necessary. The only chip worth considering on an Intel LGA1200 board is the 10900k. Your board should handle a fully clocked 10900k if you undervolt it—default voltages are quite high. If not, you can lower the clock speed slightly. You could sell your CPU and memory to obtain a used 12400/12600K with a solid 600 board.

Intel's X series isn't ideal for gaming. Your board only handles 10th and 11th generation models, but because it's a B460 model, you won't be able to boost "K" (unlocked) CPUs. The "K" version supports higher speeds, while the "F" version lacks an integrated graphics, meaning if your GPU fails, connecting a monitor becomes difficult since the CPU doesn't have an iGPU. CPUs without an iGPU are more affordable. Personally, I prefer the unlocked model because I often overclock and having a backup iGPU is helpful. Either way, any i9 10th gen chip should work for the next few years.
