Hey everyone, I have a small issue. My friend just got his new PC, and I bought a Windows 8.1 CD key from a website. I thought I could use my Windows 8 CD to install it, but I realized that’s not possible with a Windows 8.1 CD. I’ve been trying to create a boot USB for the 64-bit version, but only illegal downloads are available—those come with activation issues and I don’t want them since I have a legal key. I also can’t find a way to get it from Microsoft’s site because the key wasn’t purchased through their official channel. (We know it works because I tested it on my PC using an 8.1 updater.) In short, anyone have any suggestions for a legal installation so I can make a boot drive USB? Thanks a lot, and I’m sorry my English isn’t great!

You should be able to obtain the ISO file directly from Microsoft.

The link provided leads to Microsoft's official support page for Windows 8 upgrade keys. It's the correct source for obtaining product keys.

He wants the Windows 8.1 ISO file, not a purchase link with a code.
