Searching for a CPU compatible with the 3080 graphics card.
I just purchased a 3080 and got it. I’m checking if my i7 8700 can reach its full performance or if upgrading to a 5600X with a new motherboard would be better. Currently, I have 16 GB of 2400 MHz RAM, planning to upgrade to a 3600 16 GB kit next week.
This model features a 10600k chip with a marginally faster clock and enhanced security features compared to the standard 8700. While it runs at 4.5ghz versus the 8700's 4.3ghz, performance differences are likely limited to around 10-15% due to memory constraints. I expect this result to closely match what you'd experience with a 5ghz 8700 once your 3080 arrives. For most games at 1440p, it should perform adequately. Unless targeting 1080p, sticking with your current setup seems reasonable.
It seems like there might be a misunderstanding. Could you clarify what you mean by "non k cpu"? Are you referring to a specific system or context?
Stock 10600k offers a few extra MHz, improved thermal performance, better built-in Spectre fixes, and faster RAM compared to previous models. In this test, it runs smoothly with consistent IPC. These are minor variations; the main advantages come from its speed and efficiency. Compared to the locked 8700, which is noticeably faster, it still meets GPU limits at 1440p. The added cost—$300 for CPU, $150 for motherboard, $80 for RAM—is justified if you're targeting higher performance. If you're using the 8700 and 3080, what games are you playing? At which resolution and refresh rate are you testing? Is it delivering the expected performance? Are your graphics cards underutilized often?
