These backplates can be swapped out, but if you were handling them yourself, ordering a fresh one would make sense. It's impressive you got all four done—just double-check if you were using the Intel screws. You'll also need to replace the cooler mounting hardware or consider getting a different cooler.

The problem stemmed from the built-in cooler support bracket being forced too tightly during assembly, causing the screws to break when attempting removal (partly due to lack of familiarity with PC construction)

Checked if the backplate could move—it was firmly in place. No success. We’ll ask someone familiar for a second opinion, or attempt a simpler solution. If neither works, just pray and hope Amazon intervenes

Amazon won't process returns when damage is caused by the user. It seems they're taking that into account. Over the years, I've handled these AMD systems and never experienced the stock mounting bracket screws breaking off—even the most secure ones I've seen can be removed with a screwdriver. The only plausible explanation is A: you were applying pressure while tightening them, or B: a power tool or torque driver caused the failure. Since neither method was used, I'm unsure how to advise you. These screws are tough to break like that, which suggests a mistake on my end, especially since I haven't removed an AM5 backplate before, despite working with many units. After further research, I learned they don't come off easily.

I've been checking this too, could you try taking off the backplate without using a drill? It looks like just removing the four screws securing the CPU frame might be enough.

The image suggests the CPU lockdown and cooler mount are integrated into the backplate. You can remove the CPU lockout, though you’ll likely have to locate and replace the damaged screws. Take them out and check the situation.

Fortunately, nothing required fixing. All components except the GPU are functioning, though we suspect the monitor may be old and incompatible with the newer GPU.

He had a familiar arrive and managed to take off the backplate, then unscrew everything. I don’t know the exact process, but we probably had a bit of luck.
