I'm staying with my grandparents and my 12-year-old cousin is playing Fortnite. He uses an Ethernet cable and turns off WiFi to take all the bandwidth. I need a way to disable his Ethernet connection so it stops working, but I also want it hard to figure out why it stopped. I should be able to fix it myself without paying for a new one. Please keep it simple.

You can place a tiny strip of transparent tape on the Ethernet ports on both the router and the computer, ensuring they don’t touch. Simply take the tape out after use.

It looks like a small issue. Have you considered reaching out to him or his parents?

Access the Router and adjust the settings on the connected port or simply turn it off. Or give him a good push—laugh it up!

If he’s shutting down the Wi-Fi, it shows he understands how to connect to the router. Update the login credentials for the router. It’s unusual for older people to handle that kind of task.

It seems you're suggesting they're correct unless they have a modem and a separate Wi-Fi access point.

He's incredibly self-centered, the worst person I've ever encountered, and his mom won't refuse him. His dad isn't around.

Actually there is a button on the side of the router that turns off the WiFi, it's an old router.

It's fair enough, though it's an assumption. If their grandparents are like mine—my aunts, uncles, friends, or those older folks I've helped—they probably wouldn't want to go in there. Plus, even if I'm mistaken, they could just note the user/pass and tell the cousin to keep it secret.
