Hello, I recently upgraded my system with a 3700x and used the standard Wraith Prism cooler. During idle it maintains a temperature between 40°C and 50°C, occasionally rising to about 55°C. When gaming it quickly reaches 77°C to 80°C and stays there, with spikes up to 88°C. The room temperature is around 21°C. Does this align with what’s typical for the 3700x? I have A-XMP enabled and no additional overclocking. My current settings include: - Extra top exhaust fan installed. - BIOS updated to the latest release (reduced idle temps by ~10°C). - Custom CPU fan curve created. - Undervolting at 0.1V (no impact on performance or heat, tested with Cinebench R20). System specs: case Corsair Graphite 230T (2 intake fans, 1 rear exhaust, 1 extra top), SSD 120GB Samsung 850 EVO, HDD 1000GB Toshiba 7200RPM + WD Black 2TB, PSU Corsair VS Series VS650 MOBO, CPU AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, GPU Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 Windforce OC. Are these readings acceptable? Is there anything else you can try to lower the temperature without spending much (like a new cooler or case)? Would switching the cooling paste to Arctic Silver 5 help? Thanks ahead!

It seems this setup is quite common for the stock heatsink. I’m not sure what CPU temperature you’re seeing, but it’s likely the die temperature—generic sockets usually read lower when under load. If you’re facing real heat problems, the chip should be throttling, meaning the cooler might be hitting its limits. A better thermal paste won’t make much difference, and a decent aftermarket cooler can only slightly extend boost clocks during heavy use. Just avoid removing the heatsink abruptly; gently twist it before lifting it to prevent the processor from coming out.

I’d change to the Ryzen Balanced plan first. Perhaps boost the intake fan speed if it helps.

Thanks for the response. I checked the temperatures with HWinfo. If swapping the thermal paste doesn’t make a big difference, it’s probably best to keep it as is. Maybe think about upgrading the cooler later, as it sounds quite noisy at full capacity.

There isn't a specific tool required just for adjusting the intake fan RPM. You may need to use your motherboard's BIOS settings or a compatible overclocking software to make these changes.

I encountered a problem during an upgrade from 1600x to 3600x. The chipset drivers didn’t install correctly even though the interface seemed ready. After several chipset removals and cleanups, the only solution that helped was a complete Windows reinstall. It functioned flawlessly afterward.

It varies by motherboard BIOS. Undervolting isn't guaranteed to help. Consider using a fixed voltage of 1.20v manually.
