Hello there!
I'm just starting this forum and have a question about running a Radeon RX 580 with a 550W PSU I already own. Could you confirm if it's possible?
Here are my details:
Processor: I7 7700 @ 3.60Hz
RAM: 16GB Crucial Ballistix DDR4 2400MHz
Storage: SSD Samsung 240GB, two 1TB hard drives
Cooling: Hyper 212 EVO and a 120 back fan
Power supply: Cooler Master GX 650 80 Plus Bronze
Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VIII HERO

It looks like an older power supply unit, but maybe not too bad for its time.
I wouldn't put my money on it if I was using an old PSU.

Thank you for the response. Is purchasing an RX 570 the top choice, or should we consider switching the PSU? I currently have an old GTX 750 Ti working fine, just facing a CPU bottleneck.

I would upgrade to a more recent PSU. Many cooler masters perform poorly, and age doesn't improve this.

The 650W PSU is sufficient, and your CPU isn't capable of overclocking.

Hello, the PSU's URL lists "WATTAGE500 to 750W," but I assumed "gx 650" was the correct rating, sorry—I'm just starting out.

No worries with an i7-7700, that's still a respectable cpu.
That i7 will pair up for 1080p with a Rx580 just fine, getting decent fps and graphics.
Psu, no. Those psu's were first listed on Amazon in 2004. They've been discontinued since upgrade to Bronze in 2011.

"650" refers to the power range. The key figure is the +12V output, delivering 624W for the GX650 model.

There are four sizes available (OEM Enhance) for the Bronze rated GX, ranging from 450w to 750w. The original GX has three sizes (OEM Seventeam) with similar power ratings of 550w to 750w. It's a design from about nine years ago that continues to be sold today, such as at Best Buy. When placed near the BB house brand (Insignia), these units appear much better than they actually are. I don't consider them 'junk' in the strict sense, but the GX models are quite lacking in low-end quality.

It's strange that the PSU only supports 6C/C7 and its DC to DC capability is quite outdated.
