More people are reporting these problems than there are enough actions being taken. This issue with the melting cable shouldn't be occurring!
I am not satisfied with NZXT's response:
Using the 12V-2x6 cable, the temperature should stay within safe limits during regular operation. Some warmth is acceptable, but the cable shouldn't feel hot when touching it. Our C1200 Gold ATX 3.1 power supply and cables are built to comply with ATX 3.1 standards and include thermal protection to guarantee safe performance. If you observe the cable getting excessively hot, please make sure: - The cable is correctly connected at both the PSU and GPU ports - There are no bends or restricted areas in the cable - There is sufficient airflow around the cable and GPU area Thank you!
If you're concerned, you can simply adjust the power limit to 450W in the settings and leave it. You won't need more than that each day, and it can reach up to 560 during synthetic tests.
P.S you connect two different wires or connectors between the PSU and the GPU, correct? Not one with just two plugs?
Yeah, I was considering setting it to 80%, but it's annoying having to handle power management yourself since it might be due to a manufacturer issue. To clarify, it's not an adapter and it seems to support 12V 2x6.
Regarding the hot cable update: I performed a 2-hour test and the card consistently delivered around 570W. After measuring the cables and connectors again, temperatures are now between 55-60°C on the cable and 73°C at the connector. The card reached a peak of 78°C. From what others have shared, that's within acceptable limits and well below its threshold. It might just be the GPU generating heat that raises the connector temperature.
I'm not sure about the accuracy of my Ooni pizza digital thermometer or how it measures, but I suspect I might have hit a hotspot.

Who gets the blame Nvidia of the PSU suppler ??
Then you have the risk of cooking your lovely new ( LOL ) 2000usd GPU with everyone hand balling the warranty .
PSU company can by rights blame Nvidia and Nvidia being Nvidia will most likely play PR and blame improper connection eg: user error !!
I felt a bit concerned again in this generation, similar to what I experienced last one when comparing the 4090 and the 7900xtx.
In the end, I chose the 7900xtx red devil for a few reasons:
1 price
2 I had positive impressions with AMD GPUs in recent models
3 I was concerned about potential issues with the plugs
3.5 (since it fits into 3) protecting my investment if I’m spending a lot more now compared to last year, am I mistaken in hoping for fewer problems and less trouble when trying to claim warranties?
I was seriously considering waiting until the end of the year to buy a 5090 because I don’t feel AMD’s current offerings are up to par this generation.
Maybe not this time.
