It seems the current setup isn't improving much, so the best option is to upgrade the CPU. That would be the only way to make a noticeable difference, at least to demonstrate it.

You switched to a more powerful GPU since 250 frames per second weren't sufficient. At that speed, the CPU might be limiting performance.
