My intention is to purchase a GeForce RTX 1070 with 8GB of VRAM, but my central processing unit is relatively weak for that graphics card (Intel Core i3-6100). I acknowledge that I will eventually require an upgrade, yet due to limited funds, I anticipate postponing it for approximately 3 to 9 months until my financial obligations are settled. How significantly will the CPU limit performance? I enjoy titles such as Dark Souls, Divinity, The Witcher, King's Canyon, and I intend to acquire Sekiro and similar games. Furthermore, I have 8 gigabytes of memory installed – is this sufficient? I am aiming for a frame rate of 60 frames per second at 1080p resolution with medium to high settings, or am I realistically unable to achieve this performance due to my CPU’s limitations? I eagerly await any responses.

With reduced graphics settings, I'm able to achieve a consistent frame rate of 60 frames per second across all my games. However, wouldn’t the graphics card primarily influence visual quality? It's more complex, but essentially, the processor manages your frame rate and the graphics card handles your visual settings. Decreasing graphic options might not significantly change how many frames you see running games at their current levels. You'll likely maintain a comparable frame rate while utilizing more demanding settings.

Each process will eventually encounter limitations... Simply incorporate a 1070 graphics card if desired, and upgrade your processor when feasible. It won't negatively impact performance.

I acknowledge that, but will it negatively impact my satisfaction and requirement for clear 1080p resolution?

Switching from an integrated graphics card to a 1070 will result in a significant upgrade, even if your processor slightly limits the 1070’s performance.

Its performance will mirror your processor’s limits. It won't match the potential of your graphics card. Each game requires varying levels of processing power from both the CPU and GPU, leading to potential improvements compared to your previous setup in some titles. However, you might not observe any noticeable difference in others if the game was already heavily reliant on the CPU.

Would an upgrade from a GeForce RTX 750 Ti to a GeForce RTX 1070 provide any benefit in games that rely heavily on the processor? Wouldn't the 1070 potentially pull me out of my current experience playing at a low resolution?

Despite the fact that any process already demanding significant processing power won't benefit from a more powerful graphics card, I suspect that few games will be limited by your CPU with a 750ti.

While you’re noticing positive changes, performance can vary significantly based on the specific game – expansive open-world titles like The Witcher 3 might struggle to maintain 60 frames per second, whereas more focused, linear games like Dark Souls should perform well. What was your experience with the 6100 and 750 Ti? If those games ran satisfactorily, then utilizing the 1070 should allow you to increase visual settings without drastically reducing your frame rate, maintaining a similar level of performance to what you previously achieved.

You should generally be capable of running virtually any game at or near the display specifications of a Mac, rendered in 1080p resolution.
