Well, it seems the term "PCI-E Bifurcation" isn't widely understood. For instance, previously there was just one x16 PCI-E port before, meaning only one PCI-E device could be connected. Now you can have three devices in a single x16 slot—like x8, x4, and x4. Alternatively, with two x16 slots (not PCH), you can fit two x4 devices in the second slot. To skip the hardware modifications, choose a product that comes ready to work. Just because a board has an x16 port doesn’t guarantee it’s compatible—wiring matters. I recently bought a B550 with five x16 slots, but only one was set up for 16 channels. Without proper connections, you can’t achieve the full 8x8 performance.

You cannot fit eight lanes into a slot designed solely for x1 or x4 connections. It won’t function properly. Check the reverse side of the RX-6500—it’s an x16 slot on the card, but only x4 pins are wired in, leaving the rest unconnected. Therefore, no matter how you try to modify it, it can’t support x8.

Hmm? I thought both AMD and Intel motherboards only offered this in premium builds. I wasn’t able to locate any budget-friendly AMD options with it. It seems this capability relies on specific hardware, not just a marketing trick. Also, the forum tends to focus heavily on gaming topics—anything else might draw unwanted attention. That’s pretty typical for most tech discussions, though I’m still trying to find something beyond that.

It includes this feature, and I believe it offers the most affordable option for that chipset. Perhaps the difference lies in the 550 versus 450 models?

i9 12900k engineering samples come with the x16 slot turned off. I’m curious if a method like this could be applied to certain boards to achieve at least x8 performance in a specific slot. It’s unclear, but if someone has access it would be interesting to see.
