I kept missing updates on the Windows 10 technical preview for months before deciding to install it. After trying it for a few hours yesterday and another few today, here’s what stood out—compared to Windows 7, some of the new features come from Windows 8.

No, Windows doesn't support multiple desktops in the same way OS X does.

I didn’t like build 10130 much, and my computer also didn’t. Yes, the start menu and Cortana worked, but the whole process was really shaky. It kept freezing, so I just went back to version 9926 from January.

In OS X, managing several desktops is similar to using applications across different windows. You can run multiple programs on one desktop and switch quickly to another. This setup offers a smooth experience. For Windows 10, having multiple desktops works much like in Ubuntu, allowing you to organize tasks efficiently. I haven't tested it with many monitors yet, so I'm unsure about the performance there.

Constructed version 10130 caused issues with the start menu. Graphics drivers ceased functioning. Attempted to revert, but problems persisted. Restored a previous version.

The start menu and search functioned, though it was very unreliable. It might be linked to graphics driver issues with 10130.9926, which is what I’m using now, but I also have a GT610.

It looks similar to OS X, which is a positive outcome.

For a reason, it didn't bring me back to 10074. Instead, it took me all the way to 9926 starting in January.
