Verify your power plan settings—minimum should be 5% and maximum 100%. Also check if turbo boost is active; turn it off if enabled.
I believe the 7001MHz refers to the bus speed for Video RAM, not DRAM. The DRAM usage appears in the fourth line and exceeds 7GB during playback. RAM consumption stays above 8GB consistently, even when the wireless adapter is active, as shown in my first video. In that video, I overclocked the CPU to 4.2GHz, but after resetting everything back—including the CPU clock—I didn’t reach that speed. My power plan remains set to High Performance, with processor states at 100% minimum and maximum. Should I adjust it to 5%-99%? Is the turbo boost PBO? I usually enable PBO to the highest setting the system allows, but when I lock the CPU clock at 4.2GHz it doesn’t seem to activate PBO anymore.
I understand. It's not obvious why I shared your bus speed. Especially since it remains consistent. Alright, this is your choice. If you set it to 100% and 100%, your CPU will operate at full capacity outside of gaming sessions. That wouldn't be ideal for my system. When you adjust it to 5%, the performance drops accordingly, and if it exceeds 5%, it will automatically adjust itself. The 5% level is the minimum, and keeping it there helps lower idle temperatures. Yes, PBO enables turbo boost – Intel's term for it. You probably want to turn it off since it isn't being utilized. This decision is yours. I disabled turbo boost a while back after learning how to manually control CPU speed, and it has worked well ever since. It seems your problem might be network-related or requires updating chipset drivers and BIOS. If disabling the wireless adapter resolved the issue, it likely points to a network concern. Before updating anything, check your current chipset and BIOS versions. First, consider if the issue applies to other titles. GTA 5 is known for network problems, especially in story mode. However, since the game runs smoothly offline, it could be a server-side issue. What country are you located in? I've heard Rockstar servers are currently strained due to more players online. It's unclear if this affects your situation. Try playing other games to see how they perform. Ensure they connect to servers as well.
My chipset driver and BIOS are all up to date. I always play GTA V offline, so the problems don’t seem to be connected to the server or network issues. I use it for benchmarking because it demands a lot of resources. I tried BF V and got good results when DXR and DLSS were on, achieving around 100 FPS. I reinstalled the wireless card driver again and there’s no lag now—even with the wireless adapter turned on. However, the frame rate is still quite low, around 30-50 FPS as shown in the video. I don’t know any other solutions at the moment...
I'm not sure, what country are you in? This could mean it's rockstar servers from your country, I'm not exactly sure. Well that may take care of the lag. The low frame rate may now be the last issue to fix. I have just noticed one thing. And this might the culprit(hopefully). It's in all 3 of your videos. On your GPU bar at the top of the screen. You have temperature and then a usage percentage(which I want to say is GPU usage). You then have MHz and another usage percentage(which I want to say is GPU power usage ). Is that 4th stat indeed power usage? If it is, your GPU power usage should be well above where it's at. 40-43% is way low and something is most likely limiting your GPU power usage somewhere(if that stat is indeed power usage). It should be around the same and/or above your GPU usage. In the 80's, 90's, even hitting 100% GPU power usage. Not 40-43%. One thing first comes to mind is the Prefer Maximum Performance setting in your NVIDIA control panel. Make sure that is set to prefer maximum performance. There's other ways your GPU power is somehow limited. There's one in MSI Afterburner itself, the power slider. There should be something in your BIOS as well. And there's also some settings in your power plan. There's a power saving setting in the PCI Express setting in your power plan to check. A link state power management option. There's off, moderate or maximum. Mine is set to moderate and I'm on the balanced power plan. I also had to manually set my min and max processor state on the Balanced plan.
I'm in Thailand. My fourth number on the first line isn't about GPU power usage—it's the speed fan tachometer displayed as percentage and rpm. I've changed the settings to prioritize maximum performance, turned off power-saving mode, and enabled Afterburner to show GPU power consumption. Now the first line shows GPU power usage, and the fifth and sixth lines display the fan speed. I have a question about the power management mode in NVCP; it's set to optimal power. Is that correct? Because when I switch to maximum performance, my GPU generates a lot of heat and raises its temperature by about 5-10°C even when not in use.
This could have something to do with it but I'm not sure. Turn your internet completely off. Unplug it. Are you still able to play GTA 5? I see. Now that you have it showing, you're hitting in the 40's-60's GPU power. It should be where I mentioned, the 80's, 90's and even 100%. Something is limiting your GPU power. Yay! We may have found the culprit. Set that sucker to Prefer maximum performance. Play the game again and post the video. Hopefully your GPU power usage goes up and in turn your fps as well. It's suppose to create more heat, lol. It's going to use more power, which you want for more performance. The GPU fan should also ramp up more than its usual 40-43% to keep the GPU cool. Unless you have it on a default setting(which is fine). If you want that fan speed to go up and help with thermals, totally up to you to decide on setting a more aggressive fan curve. The default setting should be fine and hopefully it'll ramp up to say, 60-70% on the default setting vs the 40-43% it's been at. When idle, what is your current GPU temp on the optimal power setting and what is the 5-10 C more idle temp when you have it set to Prefer maximum performance? My guess is both of these are completely fine. And if you want a lower idle temp, you can set your idle fan speed on the GPU if you wish. Let me know both of these temps first. They're probably not too bad at all.
Performance is optimized at its peak. The system remains stable with approximately 60% capacity, and all functions operate normally.
I boost my frame rate by reducing graphics options. Right now I have the only option available. This change mainly impacts this game rather than others like BF V, suggesting the issue lies with the game itself. Thanks a lot for your assistance! @Polemical
