Reduced frame rate in GTA V using an RTX 2070 graphics card
My performance on GTA V has dropped to 40-60 fps even when running games from GeForce Experience. On an RTX 2070 it should reach about 100+ fps, whereas with my previous 2060 it was roughly 80-100 fps. My Windows uses Samsung NVMe storage, but the game runs on a HDD because of limited space. I've reinstalled graphics drivers using ddu and downloaded ones from NVIDIA sites. With DXR and DLSS enabled, I achieved 100-120 fps on BF V. This is my playstyle; you can notice the lag at frame rates of 0.29 and above. My system specs include a Ryzen 3600 with B450M Steel Legend RAM (16GB), an AMD Ryzen 850W 80+ Gold PS, and a GFX power supply. I adjusted the graphics and advanced options to their lowest levels, which improved the frame rate but didn’t eliminate the lag at 0.29 and 1.30. The issue might be related to older settings or compatibility problems. For GTA V, consider checking recommended system settings from the game’s official resources or adjusting resolution, refresh rate, and display options accordingly.
Back then I was using an older PC (i7-4790+GTX745). Initially the game ran at about 24 frames per second with the lowest settings. After adjusting a few parameters, I achieved around 60 fps. I lost track of the exact setting, but experimenting with full-screen and borderless windowed mode helped. It’s worth checking if the game matches your screen resolution—running above your monitor’s resolution usually lowered the frame rate significantly. There’s also a scaling option that consumes a lot of VRAM (well over 10GB). I wouldn’t rely too much on GFE, as it often gives settings suited for my hardware but only at 40 fps or less. How long are you using your computer? Which manufacturer and model does your RAM belong to? Have you adjusted the RAM speed settings within your BIOS?
In a short time, my RAM is Toughram RGB 3600MHz and the timing settings came from a Ryzen calculator to achieve 3733 16-21-21-36.
I believe my current PC can handle high performance in GTA V even though I set everything to the lowest options at the correct resolution and refresh rate; the frame rate is still below expectations. I attempted to adjust the graphics settings below GFE, but it didn’t make a difference. I compared my results with this video that has nearly identical specs and the same game configuration, yet I see significantly lower performance than shown.
That's SK Hynix RAM. Have you attempted adjusting it to 3600 18-22-22-42?
It is hynix CJR. I do not know much about ram timings. I have tried 18-22-22-42 at 3600MHz but still same results. I try to set everything to default, bios, nvcp and game graphic settings. I get more framerate but still have a lot of lags as shown in video.
I discovered that turning off the wireless adapter (ASUS PCE-N15) removed the lag or frame drop. This was observed using LatencyMon. The issue might relate to power management settings on my PC, not just a CPU clock reduction. Since I keep the power plan set to high performance, it’s possible the system is adjusting power usage under certain conditions.
