Found two Z77 boards packaged together for $27. The issue is a few nonworking USB ports and headers on the Z77M D3H, while the second board (Z77 G43) appears to be functional after testing and seems to have been used previously. It looks like a simple socket or PCIe cleaning might restore it. I’m checking if the Z77M D3H works for RAM overclocking—similar to the Z77 Extreme4, mainly needing 2600+ MHz and stable voltages. VRMs aren’t a concern unless you’re using a Pentium and want more consistent power. Which board is better for RAM overclocking? Just in case, the fixed G43 could be worth keeping rather than selling for profit.

Why continue investing in these outdated components? When will you stop saving and upgrade to DDR4 while they're still functional? We've talked about it—you need a Z97 OC solution and something like a 4770K or 4690K for high-frequency clocks.

I'm just a budget type (¯\_). Haswell seems too expensive, and I question selling DDR3 3000+ when most systems run only Haswell. Ryzens is also costly, so I need at least 3rd generation or better for solid RAM speeds (5000+) because older models are poor. Maybe Intel has something since the 10th and 11th gen are now less useful. Could I get a 10100/5(f) + b560/z490? But how do these options compare to the Z77 Extreme4 and Z97 OC formulas?

It seems both boards might be experiencing problems. One isn’t posting at all, while the other appears active but may struggle with high-speed components like DDR3 at 3000MHz. It’s a risky situation.

When compared to the extreme4, which one comes closest or performs better? I’m aiming for around 2800 runs at most, and only the best processors truly reach those speeds. It’s mostly Hynix chips that handle such high frequencies, though you could definitely push a Pentium to match or exceed them—just keep in mind it’s a stretch.

They're pretty much the same as a d3h. These seem like beginner-level pieces. You might want to check out a z77 extreme 9 instead.

The next best option is a Z77 fatal error. I’m curious if swapping my worthless post for it would work, because this bunch of junk won’t sell and I really need something that can handle at least 2400, if not closer to 3000.

3000mhz would be a huge leap even for something like a Sabortooth on the Z77 chipset. That's what I've been trying to explain all along. The Z77 isn't suited for achieving the DDR3 speeds you're aiming for. There are no shortcuts to improve Z77 overclocking and then settling for low-end boards with basic chips. I just don't think reaching 3000mhz is possible, let alone 2800 or 2600.

It's similar to how 6700K on DDR4 isn't ideal versus higher speeds like 8700k or 9900k. The 6700K wasn't suitable for DDR4 clocks. This is the scenario you're facing with DDR3 instead.
