Question Why am I getting low frame rates on Cyberpunk?
Question Why am I getting low frame rates on Cyberpunk?
I watched some videos and it seems like the graphics card is still slowing things down most of the time. The frame rates look pretty similar whether you have one or two 16GB channels working. It's interesting because even though both setups use the same amount of memory, Cyberpunk uses more when dual channel is on. That suggests the game likes it. But the frames come out faster with dual channel, so playing will be smoother and less jerky. Most of my tests used CPUs with many cores or hyperthreading. The last thing you could try would be to hunt down a used 9900K. A lot of footage showed people driving around, which might not tell the whole story since some games are more CPU heavy than others. Don't forget that fighting calculations matter too.
I've got a 11900K and a 3070 FE card. If I hit the highest settings with DLSS on and ray tracing turned on, I get about fifty frames, but cutting ray tracing off boosts that number by maybe ten or so. My personal experience shows crowd levels really don't matter much for me, even though I see almost no difference between 1080p and 1440p settings in my own case. The game still has a lot of optimization work to do. I hope the game stays popular (which reading suggests it already is) so that hardware upgrades and tweaks to the engine will eventually catch up, making this title into what everyone really wants it to be.
I don't think I should swap a 9600K for a 9900K. The extra cores mean more heat, plus there are those shady resellers dumping them on you with terrible deals. Even at Micro Center, where they sell new ones for less than the price of a soda, the 9900K is still a huge deal overkill. Also, an H310 motherboard would struggle to handle the power that this CPU needs and might just slow down.
I think this game is decent. People aren't buying it much because they had too many expectations and spent way too much money on advertising. Also, it didn't play well when I tried it on old computers. If you want to fix your PC for other games or later titles, upgrading the CPU could help, but only if the price fits in your budget. You should check how much your i5-9600k is worth and see what else you can get rid of like RAM or a big part of the motherboard. Then you can buy something better, maybe an Intel 12600K or similar. Sure, it costs more, but the graphics card will run much smoother than yours right now. Anyway, looking at your motherboard could help too. Maybe that's why your CPU is slowing down (throttling) because it gets hot and stops working to stay cool.
Yeah, I agree with that point. If you really want to spend time upgrading, look for an Intel 12th gen processor instead. I'd almost say wait for the newer Ryzen models, but since it's a brand new system, be careful and wait before checking things out in the first few months.
What plan are you running? Try switching to high or Ultimate. To get the Ultimate one, just type this command into powershell: powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61
