Question PC stops working while creating shaders in Last Of Us Part 1?
running on an i9-10900k with Corsair Hydro Series H100x AIO Cooler, MSI Z490 motherboard and RTX 3080, 32GB DDR4 RAM at 3600mhz. Power supply is a Seasonic GX-1000w Gold+. This occurs only when the game is building shaders. I monitor it with Rivatuner while it builds shaders. CPU temperature is around 73°C, GPU at 50°C. I’m really unsure what’s causing the issue.
Shader compiling is merely a CPU operation; what are your VRM temperatures? AIO coolers often struggle with inadequate cooling. Also, if the PC shuts down and pressing the power button on the case has no effect, the only solution is to switch the PSU on/off—since the PSU protection activated. However, if pressing the power button works, it means the mainboard protection has triggered, which is typically caused by overheating.
didn't overclock anything, even disabling the XMP profile in my Mobo Bios still causes shutdowns while shader building. i think the shader building process is a real stress test, which is the only time this happens. it's similar to the pc switching off and then turning back on after loading windows.
To be honest, it’s not really about my age, but it’s interesting that I turned off the XMP Profile for my RAM. It came back to the standard 2133MHz for DDR4, and after restarting the game, it rebuilt the shaders and ran longer. Eventually, it shut down again. I think turning it off and on might be a BIOS setting related to power loss. It feels strange if my PSU is failing.
I also checked the shader building again and even lowered the voltage on my RTX 3080. During that process, the GPU was around 180W while the CPU stayed at 4.9GHz, ranging between 160W and 180W. It’s hard to say if the issue is with the power supply or something else. My CPU temperature was between 69-73°C, and the GPU was only at 50°C during that time.
This power supply is named the Seasonic Focus GX-1000w Gold+

The production date must be found by opening the package and checking the label on the side of the power supply unit.
