Question Black Screen on a new build (Please help. I am a beginner here)
Hi All,
Problem - After playing for 2 to 15 minutes in Destiny 2, I encounter a black screen. The PC restarts itself but remains black. I have to force shut down using the power button. Otherwise, it runs smoothly while browsing and watching YouTube and OTT content. (I haven’t installed any other software or games yet, as I experienced the black screen during testing of Destiny 2).
I built my first PC two days ago. I stress-tested the GPU, CPU, and RAM using Furmark and Memtest86. All tests passed without errors (0 issues).
All drivers are up to date, and the BIOS has been updated as well.
I reviewed the event log and discovered critical errors just before the system went black:
System Log -
1) Error - Event 162, volmgr - Dump file generation succeeded.
2) Critical - Event 41, Kernel-Power - The system rebooted without a clean shutdown. This might happen if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power suddenly.
3) Error - Event 1001, BugCheck - The computer restarted after a bugcheck. Details: 0x0000003b (0x00000000c0000005, 0xfffff80372c69be0, 0xffff960d018dd580, 0x0000000000000000). A dump was saved at: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\022525-8812-01.dmp. Report ID: 41ec73eb-fed2-4f3b-95e3-f89308a7efc5.
4) Error - Event 6008, EventLog - The previous shutdown at 1:49:46 AM on 2025/02/25 was unexpected.
Could you please identify which log report would assist in resolving this issue? Thank you very much in advance for your assistance.
I experienced a similar issue a few weeks back after installing a new 64 GB RAM package. I bought a kit designed for XMP but used it in an AM5 system. The voltage was set to 1.35v, while Expo typically operates at 1.4v. Changing the voltage to 1.4 resolved the problem completely. Do you have Expo enabled? If so, what is the RAM voltage setting? If not related to RAM, it might be a minor issue with the AMD driver or Destiny 2. You could test other games to confirm if the problem persists. Your drivers seem up to date, but did you also install the chipset driver? A BIOS update might improve stability. Also, check your GPU and CPU temperatures.
By default, the DRAM voltage tends to be low because it configures the RAM for low frequency operation. Turn on expo and observe the voltage reading. If it stabilizes around 1.35v, you probably have an XMP kit installed. In that scenario, adjust it to 1.4v.
Reverting the CMOS should restore all configurations to their original state and turn off the expo function. Are you certain you performed the reset correctly? Disconnect the power supply, remove the battery, and attempt to short the (battery) connectors using a screwdriver for a few seconds.
Hi,
CMOS reset worked properly.
First boot used one RAM stick, played the game for an hour without any black screen (open case, Expo disabled, 4800 speed).
Second boot with two RAM sticks, continued playing for another half hour without a black screen under the same conditions.
Issue -
A problem occurred after closing the case while using the same configuration.
Additionally, I observed an odd behavior: during gameplay, when adjusting volume via keyboard, the screen briefly went black before returning to normal.
This pattern appeared in system logs during the black screen incident.
System Log -
1) Error - Event 162, volmgr - Dump file generation succeeded.
2) Critical - Event 41, Kernel-Power - The system restarted unexpectedly without a clean shutdown. This could result from unresponsiveness, crash, or power loss.
3) Error - Event 1001, BugCheck - The machine rebooted after a bugcheck. Details: 0x0000003b (0x00000000c0000005, 0xfffff80372c69be0, 0xffff960d018dd580, 0x0000000000000000). Dump saved at: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\022525-8812-01.dmp. Report ID: 41ec73eb-fed2-4f3b-95e3-f89308a7efc5.
4) Error - Event 6008, EventLog - The prior shutdown at 1:49:46 AM on 2025-02-25 was unexpected.
It has been three days trying various solutions and it's becoming very frustrating. I don't know what to do next.
Thank you for your assistance.
This idea is helpful. Keep an eye on the temperatures, but you might also want to remove a case cover and blow a fan straight onto the motherboard, then see how it affects your experience compared to when you didn't have the fan.
I use the Arctic Freezer 36 ARGB 120mm Single Tower CPU Air Cooler and Antec C5 ARGB (ATX) Mid Tower Cabinet with seven fans. What does your fan setup refer to?
While gaming, I monitored temperatures in Celsius:
CPU - 65 - 70
GPU - 65 - 70
RAM 1 - 36 - 43
RAM 2 - 34 - 39
SSD - 39 - 46
It looks normal to me.
I have a HWinfo monitoring file. How can I attach it here so someone can review and check for any issues?
