Question about upgrades for GPU, CPU, and PSU?
Hello,
I am replacing my PC with these components:
GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC 32GB GDDR7 (formerly RTX 4090)
CPU: Intel Core i9-14900KS, 3.2 GHz, 36 MB (previously i9-13900K)
PSU: SeaSonic Prime TX-1600 Noctua Edition 1600W (previously Corsair AX Series 1600i 1600W)
My motherboard is an Asus ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO and I have a Corsair iCUE H150i Elite LCD XT Liquid CPU Cooler.
I believe everything should work, but could you please verify?
Welcome to the forums, newcomer! Compatibility - Yes. But what are you upgrading from? Where are you located and how much are you spending on the parts listed above? I wouldn't invest in 13th or 14th Gen Intel processors due to their oxidation and degradation issues. You forgot to mention the make and model of your ram for the build. Are you recycling your older case? As it stands it's a horizontal upgrade, as opposed to a vertical upgrade. Users are advised to stylize their threads with info asked of in this thread; *How to Ask for New Build or Upgrade Advice* How to Ask for New Build or Upgrade Advice First off, respect where respect is due - this is an adaptation of the Animal's *How To Ask For New Build Advice* Sticky. I created this because there's a lot of posts nowadays asking for upgrade advice both on here and on the CPU forums, and I feel... forums. to help lend context to your predicament, which in turn aids the community in chiming in with worthwhile suggestions.
Thank you all!
I’m updating my parts list with what I mentioned earlier.
I’m form Europe. My RAM is two Kingston Fury Renegade RGB, DDR5, 32 GB, 6400MHz, CL32.
I just need the top CPU choice for gaming from Intel.
Do you think there are any options to improve the CPU and power supply in that regard? I'm someone who enjoys making upgrades.
A 9800x3d is the only thing that will be faster, and even that isn't much at 4k. Your current PSU is a pretty good unit. As long as it is still under warranty, and still working fine, I see 0 reason to change it.
Please confirm if the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D fits your cooling setup and motherboard.
It would be incompatible with your intel socket motherboard and is also slower than a 9800X3D with additional stuttering. At 4k, you have absolutely no reason to get different parts than what you already have. Even with my 5800X3D, I would gain very little going to a 9800X3D at 4k with my 5090. If anything, save the cash for the next X3D chip from AMD. It will be a 12 core CCD with the extra X3D cache on top for the AM5 socket.
Thank you for your question! For CPU changes, I recommend considering Thermal Grizzly Duronaut 2g. Regarding the cloth, Esperanza microfiber cleaning cloth might suffice. To eliminate the old paste, you can use 99.8% Raccoon IPA Cleaner 100ML.
