Question about replacing a damaged chip in a GX760
Question about replacing a damaged chip in a GX760
the fans stopped working a few months ago, and after opening it, you found some chips damaged. it seems like the temperature kept going over 100 when watching movies. should i try fixing it again or buy a new fan for about 10 dollars? i’m curious how long this will last at such high temps. on a scale of 10, how badly is the gpu affected?
should i reopen it and spend 10$ on a replacement fan ?
i would retire the gpu.
any idea how long it will last in this 100+ temperatures?
these are well beyond thermal throttling temps. if the gpu was alive, you were merely cooking it to death.
About a year ago you started working on the damaged fan repair. https://forums.
GTX 760 remains affordable to replace.
GTX 950 available on eBay for $30-40.
GTX 1050 priced between $50 and $80.
GTX 1650 fluctuates around $50 to $100, with new models near $150.
If your main use is video playback, consider a GT1030 for roughly $90 or an Intel A310 for $100 (note: compatibility may vary).
Seems like I shared similar info before as well. Added a bit more detail this time.
yes, i finally opened it and gave it a clean few months ago when the fans completely stopped working
i would have preferred it otherwise, except for the money issue, and i would also need to add a new PSU too. i’m not sure my current vs450 would function at full capacity, which usually occurs when watching movies, etc.
edit- i discovered some fans
when i opened and cleaned the thermal paste, i didn’t take any photos of the fan model. now i’m uncertain about the exact card model, because opening it feels risky right now due to existing chip damage. any thoughts on whether the fan model really matters? since both are standard 4-pin fans
It's not obvious why the VS450 wouldn't work with those cards. They're all relatively light and usually draw significantly less power than the current GTX 760. You could invest around $15 in replacement fans or about $30 for a new GPU. From the pictures it seems like an MSI card. If that's the case, you can check the links provided. The same advice applies as before—just enter the card name along with replacement fans, and you'll find many options on various online marketplaces. You might also attach a pair of 120mm case fans directly to the card, as long as the heatsink maintains good contact for adequate cooling.
opened the fans and retrieved the model numbers
are there any distinctions between these two models?
