Question about linking a Hitachi/LG portable Blu-Ray/DVD writer.
Question about linking a Hitachi/LG portable Blu-Ray/DVD writer.
There are often multiple USB ports linked to the same controller on the mb, which means they distribute the Ampere equally. You might want to experiment with different ports that are spaced apart to reduce power sharing and allow more power to reach the bluray. An external powered USB would achieve the same result, though it adds an extra component you must connect.
Thank you for clarifying things in simple language. I'll purchase an additional power source and test it. Appreciate the help!
I believe the issue might be related to the driver. Have you attempted to connect them to a computer using Windows 10 or 7? Also, I have a DVD player with a Y USB cable, and it functions only with one of the USB ports, so test each one separately. Furthermore, but at your own risk, they appear to require a firmware update. Please see the link below for more details.
Thank you for your interest and guidance. You're right about that! The device (HL BP55EB40) was working before I upgraded Windows from 10 to 11 about two years ago. I plan to install the VM program and test it on Windows 10 just to be safe. The firmware update link mentioned doesn't work, showing "File Not Found." Appreciate your feedback!
Hello again friends,
Thank you for your patience.
I managed to get a 2A to 4A USB power supply and tested it with each of the six HL BP55EB40 units individually. I also changed the ports, but unfortunately nothing worked.
Unfortunately, I had hoped this would function. I’ve tried all the suggestions I could find.
My last idea is to test these six devices one by one together in Windows 10.
I’ll wait until July 20, 2023, then buy a VMware license and try them on both VMware Windows 10 and possibly older versions like Windows 7.
Thank you all for your help and advice!
Best regards,
Themevictory
You don't have to purchase VMware if you install without a license—it becomes the free version, which was formerly known as VMplayer. Also, a VM could face similar problems with recognizing drives because it uses the same ports and drivers. I'm not sure how it works, but it seems the ports still function under Windows 11 when you release a USB device from the VM. It doesn't completely take over the ports.
You're correct!!!
Same issue occurs in both Windows 10 and Windows 7.
What suggestions would you like to receive?
Thanks!

They only replied once, even after I reached out multiple times about needing new drivers. Here’s what they said.
We’d like to thank you for choosing our product.
We sincerely apologize for the slow response.
To be clear, did you encounter similar problems with a different operating system besides Windows 11?
Based on your description that the tray opens when you press the button, it seems the device is getting power properly.
With this in mind and since all six devices show the same symptoms, it’s likely the problem lies with the operating system rather than the device itself.
Unfortunately, our ability to help as a manufacturer is limited in these cases.
We’re truly disappointed we can’t offer the solution you’re looking for.
If you have further questions or concerns about our product, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Best Regards
The problem has been reported across several laptops running different operating systems. Is that correct?
