I built this RIG step by step from the 10900K up until the 11th generation was released. After that, I switched to the 11700K to access the top M2 slot and get Gen 4 performance. Recently, I’ve been experiencing shuddering in games, Photoshop, or even DaVinci. All systems report everything is functioning properly. There are a few minor issues in the event viewer, but nothing significant to address. Are you wondering if this chip is like sand? Should I revert to the 10850K and try again since the 11th gen seems problematic? Here’s what my PC has: case – Corsair 5000D Airflow CPU; Intel Core i7 11700K (alternative i9 10850K possible); cooler – Corsair iCUE H150i RGB Pro XT; motherboard – ROG Strix Z590-E Gaming EVGA GeForce RTX 3080; RAM – Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32GB (4x8GB); dual – Samsung 980 PRO 500GB PCIe NVMe Gen 4; SSD – SANSONG 970 EVO Plus 1TB M.2 NVMe.

They swapped the 11-month-old i9 for an i7 because it was a better fit. If possible, please keep the 11700k.

I faced issues swapping Comet Lake for Rocket Lake, but a fresh setup resolved it in my situation (the old BIOS was stuck). With the latest mobos, your issue probably differs. Make sure to update the BIOS and any relevant low-level drivers. It could be a minor Windows quirk where hardware changes aren't fully recognized. A clean install might work. If you have extra storage, try it there as a safe test. The "waste of sand" remark is pointless.

I bought all the components for the 11th generation but just couldn't resist building it. So I ordered a 10850k to complete the assembly. Once they released the model, I upgraded to the 17 11700k so I could have all four lanes open for M.2 drives. Two of them support Gen 4 speeds paired with the 11th generation CPU. However, the 11th generation CPUs appear to be unreliable, but using the 10850k keeps my top M.2 lane functional. I still have three left, and the Gen 4 speeds are worth it.

You seem to have a solid concept. I was considering updating the operating system. I thought about installing on the first M.2 slot with a Gen 4 Samsung drive. I’ve got the newest drivers installed and all the Windows updates applied. I’ve tried various fixes before, but nothing worked. The most recent option would be a full OS install—it might take only about 15 minutes.

It's probable your Gen 4 storage might not reach bandwidth limits based on how you're using it.

You mentioned seeing solid performance, especially on lane one with those numbers. It seems like the setup is working well after the OS reinstall. Using Samsung Magician helped confirm the results, and it looks like everything is running smoothly now.

It hinges on your specific needs and the limiting factor. If your real-world storage performance exceeds PCIe 3.0 bandwidth, retaining the 11700k makes sense.

I understand your point, but I spend a lot on editing videos and photos, so speed is important for me.
