Started experiencing frequent crushes while launching games.
I own a 3080 from MSI, which is only a few years old.
I've tried the following steps:
- Fresh driver install
- Reinstalling Windows
- Downgrading the driver
- Running Memtest
- Increasing TDR timeout
- Resetting GPU
- Placing a fan in front of the PC (temperatures look normal)
- Limiting power to 90%, using -100 core clock via afterburner
- Updating all other PC drivers
I shared my minidump; anyone can assist.

Ah bummer, always a stressful situation.
You said the temps look fine, what what temps are you looking at? HWINFO will show memory, core, and hotspot temps. The core temp isn't the whole shebang.
2nd thought, what is your PSU brand and model? This could be a failing PSU. especially if the crashing happens while launching a game which triggers power usage spikes.
3rd, are you using separate power cables connected to the 3080, or are you splitting a single cable into 2?
Started getting
crushes
often, now it happens every time when i try to launch a game.
I've never developed a crush on someone from gaming. Sounds like a good thing
😉

1. Here's a snapshot right before the crush from HWINFO, didn't find additional GPU temp data, but on the graphs i've never seen it rise higher than 83
/nvidiagpu/0/power/0
/nvidiagpu/0/throughput/0
/nvidiagpu/0/throughput/1
/hdd/0/temperature/0

GPU PCIE Rx
GPU PCIE Tx

2. Its a Corsair 850 Gold + certified one, im not sure about the model, im working with an ITX case and its complicated to take it out, I hope you're right, that's the first thing ill be replacing..
3. its not split but its in one braid, looks like two cables. It has worked perfectly for the past 3-4 years.
Got the PC around the same time I found my current SO so I guess crushes are a feature )
Thank you for the help!

One braided cabled unit with two power connectors is a split. Having two separate power cables for each connector would be better in terms of power delivery and performance. I understand it's not ideal, but a quick YouTube search will reveal why.
Install HWMonitor and monitor it closely. This seems to be the simplest approach given your ITX setup. I suspect your PSU is failing or something on your 3080 is overheating, but that appears to be the most straightforward fix at the moment.
Tell me how it turns out!

Thank you for the advice!
I'll attempt another Windows reinstall to eliminate any software concerns and if that doesn't work, I'll try a different power supply. I'll keep you updated!

I've changed the power supply, but the issues persist—crashes still happen, screen freezes even when nothing is open, just sitting in the desktop... Doing another mem test, can't get a mini dump because it doesn't crash, it just freezes. Any suggestions on what else to try?

You might attempt to start a Linux environment and execute a GPU stress test to check for OS issues. Alternatively, if you possess additional graphics cards or can obtain one, insert it into another system to determine if the crash continues.

Install HWinfo, verify if any temperatures are abnormal.
Sorry, I'll review this later.

Hi guys, a quick update:
New power supply didn't change anything.
I've bought a new GPU (RX550) to test, and it kept crushing anyways. (I've fully uninstalled all drivers and reinstalled AMD drivers and nothing changed)
Therefore I guess it wasn't the GPU/PSU after all.. which is pretty good new with GPU prices nowdays
I've re-sitted the RAM and CPU, and it seems to have helped (for the past 2 hours at least).
Ill keep you posted, I feel like writing a documentary )

I own an RTX3080 with 10GB of VRAM, having used it for three years. The only crashes I've experienced are mostly due to high settings and temperatures across the board. Except for that, everything's been fine! Have you looked at your temperatures while playing? It's a good idea to check.
