Hello, I just replaced the i3-4150 with a new processor in my 2013 Inspiron 3487. I attempted to convert a video file and noticed the temperature spiked quite a bit—reaching up to 93°C. That’s significantly higher than what the i3-4150 typically handles, especially with the voltage difference. I’m wondering if this is normal given the temperature increase. My room is around 20°C, and in the BIOS settings everything seems enabled except one restriction. I also applied fresh thermal paste and cleaned both the processor and cooler. However, I realized I might have used too much paste—there wasn’t just a thin layer. I removed some excess and cleaned the cooler’s metal surfaces. Should I revisit the thermal paste settings or think about replacing the cooler? Thanks a lot, Jon.

Is it running at idle or under stress? The stock i3 cooler may struggle to match the performance of the i7. A Dell part number should be visible on the cooler, and searching it online will reveal its specifications. (Cheap OEM units often sacrifice quality for cost...) You might need a compatible aftermarket cooler, which should work if your board supports standard spacing. (If not, you could look for a suitable Dell cooler on eBay.)

So, basic ventilator with basic radiator. And on my radiator, there isn't that copper part like in the pic of the link. Thank you.

Basic version. The OEM part listed doesn't include the copper component on the radiator, as I noticed. Thanks.

I believe the part number is 0WN7GG, rated for 65 watts. The 4790K features an 88 watt CPU (per Intel specifications). A reliable aftermarket air cooler should address the issue.

You’ll need a solid cooler because the low-quality stock model can’t handle the 4790k. A 92mm tower should work fine. You might also consider overclocking with throttle stop, though it will only raise performance to around 4.2g all cores.

I looked through the wide selection of air coolers but feel uncertain. Could you recommend any aftermarket options? How can I tell if they’re of good quality? Your case size is approximately 11.5x16x15 cm. You mentioned a fan on the left side that expels air, which is helpful. Removing it would allow more space but might trap heat inside. Adding a stronger fan could be better. The dimensions you saw on the product page seem suitable.
