Thermal interface material such as thermal paste or solder Haswell often comes with leftover paste instead of solder. When it dries, you'll need to remove it. You can do this by using a simple Chinese tool or a DIY method with a thin cutting object like a razor or metal wire.
You'll probably want a new cooler. The 4790K tends to get very hot, even when running at normal speeds. At its Turbo frequency of 4.4 GHz, it can be challenging to maintain a stable temperature. It's a good idea to upgrade to a more powerful cooler to manage the heat. If temperatures remain high after installation, you might need to remove the case and replace the Thermal Interface Material.
Hello. I made a mistake with the CPU socket while cleaning. I assumed there was too much thermal paste, so I cleaned it this morning and removed the processor because there was paste on the sides. During the careful cleaning, I noticed some pins in the socket are different. When I touched them, I felt a noticeable relief—visually some parts looked darker and there wasn’t any reflection on the copper pins. Now, one of my RAM slots isn’t working. I’m turning on an 8GB RAM stick. My mistake... But good things come with challenges, as we say in France. x) The computer is running now, so I’m sharing this update right away... Should I consider buying a different motherboard (not necessarily the same model) or try to adjust the pins? I thought about purchasing a 16GB RAM module, feeling that this might be a sign it’s not ideal to use this socket. What do you think? Thanks.
