Purchased a server but don’t know how to use it.
I bought the server mainly for NAS use, but it has 64GB RAM and two E5-2650v3 CPUs. I was wondering if it could work well for a game server or something similar. I plan to run a hypervisor so I can have both a Windows 10 Pro instance and a CentOS instance. What activities do you think would be enjoyable on it?
Dell Poweredge R720 features a 3.5-inch display with two E5-2640 processors, each running at 2.5 GHz. It offers 64 GB of RAM and supports H710 technology. The system includes two 495-watt CPUs and eight 2TB drives arranged in RAID 6 for enhanced performance.
Here are some solid options for running servers, even if they're not fully polished:
- **Minecraft** – Great for testing server stability and community interaction.
- **Terraria** – Offers a balanced environment for server management.
- **Stardew Valley** – Easy to set up and provides feedback on performance.
- **Roblox** – Useful for experimenting with server features and user engagement.
These games can help you gain experience without requiring a fully ready system.
Minecraft? Beyond that, whatever you enjoy! If your friends like Space Engineers, Factorio, or other games, then create a server for them! It doesn’t need to be running constantly—just available whenever you’re ready to jump in. Also, check out the forums!
I can assist you in testing any game servers you try! I'll stay on top of it.
