Proposal for fresh construction - video editing - excluding gaming
After numerous queries and suggestions from different subforums, I feel confident about my component selection for the build. The system is intended for everyday office applications, with demanding tasks like image and video editing at 4k 100fps using Davinci. I’ve narrowed down some key points, especially regarding the motherboard and whether to opt for an ASRock B650e Taichi LIte, which matches the price range. The build is planned for ordering in September, without a fixed budget beyond the specifications needed. No monitor is required, but a W11 Pro could be considered. The PC will be based in the UK, and all parts can be sourced from the PC part picker at the provided link.
The information provided suggests a likely mix-up between the Ryzen 9 9700 and Ryzen 7 9700x models. Based on typical configurations, I recommend considering a 7900x instead for comparable performance at a similar cost. Follow the guide in your signature for build tips, and feel free to return with any further questions. For reference, you can list your build using Pcpartpicker to verify compatibility and explore better options.
Keep the Aorus Master X670E motherboard, it offers more PCIe 5.0 lanes and improved connectivity. You should consider 6000mhz CL30 RAM or a 6400/CL32 kit. A 64gb drive would be best. For 4k video files, you'd likely need a larger than 1tb storage. I recommend a 2tb T700 if needed. If you share your budget and location, we can assist further.
Would opt for 2TB M.2 (Crucial) as primary storage for OS and applications, current work setup. Second M.2 (WD) will handle media files. My earlier mistake with processor numbers is likely fixed – it appears to be Ryzen R 9 9900X unless Ryzen R9 7900X offers better value. It’s about 41% more power usage than the 7900X. I could also consider the 7950X, which seems popular but consumes similar power as the 7900X.
You should use PBO 2 to eliminate TDP improvements. The Liquid Freezer III can handle 170W of cooling power. Check the storage section for more details.

I wouldn't be concerned about power usage. I would evaluate this and then decide if a Ryzen 9000 is worth the extra cost compared to a 7000 series, for you. Based on the figures, I don't personally believe it's a good choice, but I'm not well-acquainted with such software options. Around the midpoint there are comparisons between 9000 and 7000 results.
Uncertain if I'm overlooking something... comparing the 9000 series with the 7000 seems to show the 9900X matching the 7950X in performance.
If that's true, is there another reason to keep the older 7950, which is about £50 more expensive?
I understand the 7950 has four additional cores, but it doesn't appear to offer any real advantage in practice.
My feedback leaned more towards a 9900x compared to a 7900x. The 7900x was £106 cheaper and didn’t seem too far behind the 9900x in terms of overall rating.
Regarding the rest of your setup, I’d recommend opting for a 4tb WD SN850x instead of the 2tb Crucial Gen 5 drive. In practical use, the performance gap would likely be minimal. You probably won’t notice much difference, and you wouldn’t need a heatsink since the motherboard already has one. The Fractal Design 7 doesn’t provide much airflow improvement. I switched cases, replaced the SSDs, and upgraded to a 96gb RAM kit.
