Hey there, I recently upgraded my CPU cooler for the Ryzen 5 3600 after it was getting really hot—up to 90°C. After a few days of continuous use, it’s now idling between 55°C and 60°C, and gaming temps are around 75°C to 81°C. It’s still better than the original cooler but not quite there yet. I’m wondering if BIOS settings or something similar might be affecting the idle temperatures, especially since the thermal paste looks good and the fans are working well. The CPU isn’t overclocked, and the voltage is set to auto. I don’t think the issue lies with the paste or application, but maybe there’s another factor at play. Thanks for your help!
Ryzen often reaches higher idle temperatures than Intel. The reasons include Tdie acting as a hotspot, Intel reporting an average, and AMD applying greater voltages during idle and single-core situations versus all-core. How do your loads behave?
They seem okay though. Cinebench was only running briefly, so it probably hasn't stabilized. I've also seen it drop to around 40°C and then spike up to 48–50°C repeatedly. I'm just compressing the video for upload and will mention you in the final post.
It seems the cooler isn't secured correctly, yet the readings remain suitable for handling (73°C).
It seems you're generally getting 40C at idle, which is perfectly fine for a Ryzen processor.
It's understandable. My PC was in a chilly space without heat, but when placed properly, it would run smoothly around 55°C. The sudden temperature changes are normal—it shifts between 55°C and 62°C, then cools down again.
