Yes, you're confirming that the freeze occurred after updating the driver to GeForce Experience and that it wasn't a problem before the update.

Restarted via Windows Start Menu. Display turned off. Rebooted after a moment. Appeared ominous symbol on a black screen with spinning icons. After a brief pause, the screen froze completely with a narrower black line across it.

It hadn't been working prior to updating the drivers for GeForce Experience.

I tried it on my first machine using experience and it functioned well. I then returned that unit and received a replacement of the same make and model. This time I updated directly through the Nvidia website, achieving the same outcome. I suspect the problem lies with Windows. The system operates perfectly with Nvidia’s Standard drivers version 472.12, but fails with the DCH drivers. According to my research, these DCH drivers are tailored for specific Windows features.

That sounds really annoying. Can you tell me which drivers came with the machine when you first installed it? Based on the definition you mentioned, it seems the DCH drivers were included by the manufacturer. It makes sense that HP would include them as standard. My only idea is to reinstall Windows, though I’m not sure if that will solve the issue since it happened on both of your systems. I’m not sure what’s causing the problem. You might want to reach out to HP support for help. They could suggest cleaning a fresh install or checking if an updated version is needed. If you need more guidance, just let me know.

I had until March 9th before the 15-day return window closed for the machine. I contacted HP support who sent me a "repair" kit intended for a complete Windows 10 installation, which should replace the existing Windows 11 setup. My system is an Omen 25L with Intel I710700, GTX 1660ti, 32GB hyperX RAM and Windows 10. It ran perfectly with the original drivers without any problems. The new drivers appear to be the issue. If a full Windows 10 install doesn’t resolve the problem, I’ll return the Omen. I’ve already posted a one-star review on every platform that sells them.

Stick to non-DCH drivers from NVIDIA for old computers. This recommendation is supported by recent updates. Gaming drivers without DCH also perform well. Note that cloud-based NVIDIA services can cause occasional issues, and multi-display configurations face similar problems.
