This might surprise some members of this group, but I own an Omen 30L paired with a Ryzen 7 5800X, RTX 3070ti, 16GB HyperX RAM, and am using Windows 11. I recently purchased it last month, installed everything, and completed the full update. While doing so, I realized my GFX driver was outdated for the experience mode. I attempted an update, but the screen would freeze during the restart. I had to manually restart to get the system back up. After rebooting Windows, it still froze on startup. I tried restarting again, but it continued to freeze. Eventually, I decided to switch to the default drivers from Nvidia’s site. To my relief, those worked without freezing during restarts. The issue seems to be that older drivers might not support newer titles like Baldur's Gate 3 and Sons of the Forest. My setup should work with DCH drivers, as my previous Omen 25L with a 1660ti on Windows 10 handled everything smoothly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I haven’t received any help from HP or Nvidia, and it seems Microsoft likely doesn’t offer support either. Feeling quite desperate, I’m hesitant to build something custom with these components, so I went for a prebuilt unit instead.

In short, many individuals have deeper expertise on these topics than I do, so my advice might seem simple but could be useful. Could you clarify what you mean by 'old standard drivers'? Are you referring to the built-in display drivers that come with Windows? Open Event Viewer, navigate to Windows Logs → System, and check for any errors or warnings around the time the system crashed. If found, capture a screenshot and include it in your message. It might indicate a corrupted driver installation. Consider using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to completely remove the driver setup and restore functionality. Restart the system in safe mode and follow the prompts; the OS should detect the absence of a driver and attempt to download one automatically. Before doing so, ensure your internet connection is disabled. If you're connecting via cable, unplug it; if via Wi-Fi, disable the network adapter. For guidance on using DDU, refer to the tutorial linked: https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/dis...nload.html. Just remember, I’m not an expert in these areas, but this should provide a good starting point. P.S. Avoid relying on pre-built solutions—every PC is unique.

Check the windows driver type dropdown and you'll see DCH and Standard options. This is what I was told. These are still Nvidia drivers. Sadly, Nvidia stopped supporting standard drivers, and all their drivers since August 2021 have been DCH. I haven't used a third-party uninstaller, but I did try the custom install option and checked the clean install checkbox to fully remove the old driver before installing the new one. I'll search for the window log and share it once I locate it.

Back at the office, I’m still reviewing this. My concern is the Nvidia drive page says if you click the ? next to the Windows driver type, it lists: Standard packages are those without needing DCH driver components. DCH stands for Declarative Component Hardware Support Apps—new packages that come preinstalled by OEMs following Microsoft’s Universal Driver approach. DCH drivers can’t be installed on a standard system, and vice versa. It seems like updates might only work with Standard or Nvidia-supported drivers. I’m hoping my understanding is correct, especially since this affects a $2k boat anchor.

Some devices using Windows 10 1803 or newer can run DCH drivers. Even without support, the download from Nvidia indicates the driver isn’t available.

Error details recorded on 2/24/2022 at 2:31:20 AM. Service Control Manager reported failure to start AMDRyzenMasterDriverV19 due to missing file. Further issues logged at 2:48:34 AM involving NVIDIA LocalSystem Container services. Additional problems noted at 2:48:34 AM with a warning about unexpected termination. Corrective steps suggested to restart the service within 6000 milliseconds.

You spoke with HP support, thinking they were just a person without technical skills. They promised a Windows 10 recovery kit for a full installation. You’re hoping it will work and are wondering about the specific errors you’re encountering.

Hello, thank you for your message. It seems the problem is likely connected to the GPU. I’m not sure about the recovery kit details, but you can install Windows 10 from a USB drive and reinstall it. Have you tried using DDU before?

Just installed DDU and attempted to set up drivers 511.79. It keeps crashing when loading the screen. No warnings appear, except for a mention of distributedCOM.
