Hey everyone, I recently purchased two 8GB RAM sticks from Corsair (CMW16GX4M2C3200C16) on Amazon. I’m facing some issues where the system crashes after a short time when running at the advertised 3200MHz. After doing MemTest64 for half an hour, I saw 11 errors and then the BSOD appeared. I cleaned the slots, tried different RAM modules, and even swapped them around, but the problems persisted. I lowered the clock speed to 3000MHz and everything worked fine—MemTest64 showed no issues now. I’m confused about whether I got weak RAM or if there’s another reason preventing optimal performance. Should I report this and request a replacement, or is there something else I should check? I’m not sure how to proceed since I haven’t had any RAM problems before.

Are you certain you're using a BIOS version that handles those speeds? I've faced a similar issue on an ASUS board with an R5 2600 that kept crashing during a BSOD. Updating the BIOS helped too.

It seems the updated "AF" model is among the earlier releases. The R5 1600 CPUs are known to be quite selective about RAM MOMEX, so you should have no issues. Which RAM slots are you currently using?

It's the old R5 1600. What do you mean pickey? Before this, I had a different Corsair RAM setup with two 8GB modules at 3000MHz, but a friend is assembling a new PC and decided to give away my old unit, opting for RGB lighting instead. After trying it out, it seems the 3000MHz speed works perfectly, which is both good and frustrating. I spent money on those extra 200MHz that I can't seem to use. At first, I installed them in the same slots as before—slots 1 and 3—and then switched to slots 2 and 4, but it didn’t make any difference.

Unfortunately the chip you have isn't really known to run RAM reliably at 3200. Even some of the 2nd gen chips have problems at times, my 2700x being one that has them but does 3000 all day long and it's in an X470 Tachi Ultimate so the board isn't the problem. The sticks themselves are CL 14 G.Skill flares (B die) and are rated for 3200. Sometimes as mentioned above a BIOS update will help but no one can guarantee if it would or not.

It seems your CPU struggles at 3200MHz. Consider lowering RAM speed to 3000MHz and adjusting timing settings to 15 or 14 for better stability.

It should work likely. Test those settings and observe the results; if issues arise, revert to defaults or keep timings enabled in the BIOS under "Auto."

No, your BIOS does not automatically adjust timings. You need to manually configure them or let the system handle it.
