I've encountered issues with my memory running at its maximum speed of 3200, even though it's rated for 1.35V. The XMP profile and manual clock adjustments aren't resolving the problem—the voltage warnings keep appearing. It seems the motherboard might not be handling the settings properly. You may need to check the BIOS or consult the manufacturer for compatibility.

Please remember the CPU and motherboard use separate memory controllers. You likely have the lowest common standard here. I own two boards—one mATX, one ATX—and they both overclock aggressively. In my setup, one uses 3600MHz RAM with an R7-1700 chip that supports a 2666MHz CPU memory controller, meaning the CPU can handle the boost effectively.

Please remember the CPU and motherboard use separate memory controllers. You likely have the lowest common standard here. I own two boards—one mATX, one ATX—and they both overclock aggressively. In my setup, one uses 3600MHz RAM with an R7-1700 chip that supports a 2666MHz CPU memory controller, meaning the CPU can handle the boost effectively.

On Ryzen I've never managed to just activate XMP (actually I did on an APU too). Usually I raise the RAM voltage until it settles, since I'm not motivated to adjust it manually. The newest BIOS makes a big difference. So I should update the BIOS, turn on XMP, then boost DRAM voltage until stable—sometimes you won't need to do this. You might also need to lower the memory clock based on how effective your memory controller is.

I hadn't thought about it, I'm using a Ryzen 5 1600. Not sure which version exactly, though—I think it's the 12nm refresh.

On this high-altitude chip, upgrading to the newest BIOS might not always be necessary—focus first on the latest recommendation tailored for your specific processor.

What is the serial number? If it matches Ryzen 2000-series, it falls under the IHS cover; otherwise, it's a standard Ryzen 1600. For a 1000-series model, DDR4-3200 RAM would be extremely challenging to reach without significant luck and manual adjustments. From my experience with first-generation Ryzen, XMP settings could support DDR4-2400 or 2666. Higher speeds were difficult. The 2000-series improved slightly, but still can't match the performance of Ryzen 3000-series or 5000-series. Even with a Ryzen 3900X, I managed to enable XMP and used a Ryzen 5800X paired with 32GB (16GB dual-channel) DDR4-3600 Crucial Ballistix RGB memory.

Upgraded to 3900X recently, but the 3600X version didn’t support 3600MHz even at 1.5x speed until AGESA 1.2. Ran RAM at 3466 MHz for about a year and a half.

Reviewed HWinfo, I'm using the 2000 series refresh. The XMP adjusts automatically to 3200, but I can't boot reliably. Opening Task Manager brings it back to 2400GHz.
