Problem with Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition showing poor performance even on decent systems
When I initially purchased the game, I could load past the intro cutscene without issues, but then encountered 10-second pauses in the main menu. I usually had about 3 seconds of mouse control before the problem repeated. Eventually, I reset my Nvidia settings to default, which eliminated the in-game freezing. However, the issue still appears in the main menu, and even when resolved while playing, I’m only achieving around 20-25 frames per second. I adjusted all settings to the simplest level without any noticeable impact on performance. I’ve spent many hours searching online for a fix, and even contacted support, who have responded slowly—sometimes taking days between replies with generic advice like “restart your PC” or “check file integrity.” I’m becoming increasingly frustrated and would really appreciate any assistance at this stage.
Specs: RTX 3080, i9 12900k, 32 GB DDR4 RAM, installed on SSD.
The system features an RTX 3080, an i9 12900k processor, 32 GB DDR4 RAM, and is connected to an SSD. I possess the necessary hardware to run this title and have never encountered anything comparable before. When sharing a troubleshooting thread, it's important to provide complete system details. Please format your build information as follows:

Include the PSU age along with its make and model. Also, mention the current BIOS version for your motherboard. I’m experiencing around 20-25 fps. Is this problem specific to this game? You might attempt to uninstall all GPU drivers (Intel, AMD, Nvidia) using DDU in Safe Mode, then install the newest driver manually via the installer, selecting Run as Administrator.

Searching for cooler details or chassis information has been challenging; the PC appears to be a prebuilt unit. I’m aware it uses water cooling, and temperatures remained normal during gameplay. The motherboard details are unclear due to the build process, but that’s typical for prebuilt systems. This issue is unique to this machine—others with similar hardware have not reported problems. I’ve played over 100 titles on it, including several demanding ones, so some of these specs might be harder to verify. Please let me know if any part of this matches your setup.
Where is the game installed? Is it on the SSD or the regular hard drive?
I experienced problems with New World; initially I installed it on my standard hard drive without issues. After a year, I stopped playing and came back, but the game only displayed as a slideshow. I tried various solutions like BIOS updates and driver patches, but nothing worked until I transferred the game to an SSD, which resolved the issue. Now more games are demanding installation on SSDs.
It was initially set up on an HDD. Later, it was transferred to an SSD, and finally, a full reinstall was performed on both storage devices.
I acquired the game from a specific source where its performance was consistently below expectations.
Checking on steam to see if the issue persists in the base version.
Did you discover a fix? I'm facing the same issue, and even with a less capable device (RTX3050), achieving 20-40 frames per second in this game at 1080p is rare. I've tried everything—lowering settings and using DLSS ultra performance—but only gained about 5 fps compared to the ultra version.
Sadly, I didn’t find a solution that worked. I installed the base edition and it played much better than the PC-enhanced version. Still, I kept experiencing stutters lasting 5 to 10 seconds every 10 to 20 seconds. Eventually, I removed both versions and gave up until I upgraded my computer years later. This was the toughest problem I’ve ever faced after buying my first machine. Never had a game just refuse to run.
