Problem with internet speed
Hey everyone. I’m facing a strange problem. My speed on Speedtest.net is what it should be—1400/40—but when I try to download files from other sites, I get around 1300kbps. I thought maybe one site was causing the issue, so I’ve tested different websites and it seems like the combined speed drops across all of them. Got any idea what might be going on?
update on this: it is something on my computer, not sure what. I switched all cables, ports, router ports etc. i tried to download the same files on my phone on the wifi and its blazing. But using the wifi on my computer it is still limited. Metering is not turned on either...
Did you mean Mbps or are you really getting just 0.1% of your expected download speed? If you're only missing 100Mbps, check your CPU usage during the download. Also, run sfc /scannow from an elevated CMD window and reinstall drivers on your network card. Occasionally, small performance drops happen. A drop of 8% in speed is noticeable but not critical. You might consider attaching a fan to the side of the modem and router since they often rely on passive cooling and can overheat. If other solutions fail, you could try reinstalling the operating system.
I forgot to remove all drivers, then reinstalled them. Still not working. I checked the modem/router—it's fine and looks good. My wife uses it too; she connects via Plume WiFi, and everything in the house works except my gaming PC. The Wi-Fi is okay on most devices, but that one doesn't connect properly either. Same issue here.
Updated Mobo BIOS settings. Are you connecting via Wi-Fi or a wired connection? Do you have a Wi-Fi adapter or a patch cord? If using a patch cord, have you checked the rear IO for an alternative RJ-45 port?
